In Bible study last night we looked at what the scripture had to say about disobedience as relates to Israel. One person, in particular, was used by God to come against Israel in the man Nebuchadnezzar.
The Word of God told us that because Israel disobeyed, served idol gods and just turned from the ways of the Lord, God used Nebuchadnezzar to invade Jerusalem, take all the vessels out of the temple and then burn the temple down, along with the houses of the people. Judah was spared. Jerusalem was not. II Kings chapter 24 gives the account of this. Also, Ezra 5:12 bares out how Israel had provoked the God of Heaven unto wrath, and God gave them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this house, and carried the people away into Babylon. II Kings 24:13 says the treasures were taken out of the house of the Lord, and cut in pieces all the vessels go gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord, as the Lord had said. Verse 14 says he carried away all the princes, and all the mighty men of valor, even ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths: none remained, save the poorest sort of the people of the land. All of them were taken to Babylon. For seventy years, Nebuchadnezzar ruled Jerusalem (Jeremiah 25:11). For seventy years Israel was separated from God!! God demands obedience. Striving to obey the word of God has to be the goal of all those that desire to go to heaven. If God spared not his elect, Israel, he is not going to spare the gentiles.
