Order

When studying the first four chapters of the book of Numbers, it is plain to see that God is a god of order.  In these chapters you will see how God gave each of the families of the tribe of Levi work to do concerning the tabernacle.  Levi was allowed to to this work because they were the only tribe that answered the call of Moses when he asked, "Who is on the Lords side".  None of the other tribes (11) answered.

Levi had three sons (Hershon, Kohath and Merari.  Each of the sons had sons.  Each of the sons family had an elder (chief)  that made sure the work was done.  And, all of the Elders were under the supervision of Aaron's son, Eleazar.  Each of the three sons and families had a task in caring for and transporting the tabernacle.  It is amazing to see how God laid out his plan so His temporary dwelling place would be cared for.  For example, the Gershonites were responsible for the curtains of the tabernacle and the badger skins used to cover items and cords used to stabilize the curtains.  Merari's family was responsible for the boards used to enclose the area where the Ark of the Covenant laid.

Another interesting thing that God commanded Levi's family to do was each family was to set up the tents they lived in on different sides of the tabernacle.  For example, Merari's family camped on the east side.  The purpose of this was to keep the Israelite's from touching the linen curtain covering the tabernacle.  For to touch even the side of the tabernacle meant death.

What does all of this mean to us in 2018?  It means that the God that is going to judge us is a God of order.  The God that is going to judge us is a God that expects obedience and does not tolerate disobedience.  The God that is going to judge us does not play.

How many today really know the Lord?  How many are really living according to what the Lord says and not what man says?  How many are living holy enough to touch, handle the things of God?

Mercy and grace are a good thing.  But one day, neither will have any power.  Will you be ready when judgement begins?  To read about the Lord and His ways and His instruction and expectation to obey that is found in the book of Numbers, chapters 1-4 are enough to bring a true believer to pay attention to how he or she treats the things of God.

Thank God for the word.
